TLC was founded in 1975 by a group of parents whose children faced the prospect of a lifetime in large, isolating, and often uncaring institutions. By personally funding and converting a nursing facility in Pasadena, they opened California’s first residence specifically for adults with multiple disabilities and blindness who could not live independently.
Today, TLC remains the only organization specializing in serving adults who are challenged by multiple disabilities. Our programs for disabled adults and children served 300 individuals in 2023.
Referrals to TLC’s programs are made by Regional Center. We encourage family members to visit TLC in advance of needing services. If you are interested in attending the program, please contact your consumer service coordinator at Regional Center.

Mario Murrieta has been with TLC since 1998. His career began in support services. Today Mario is a core member of the management team and an advocate for every one of our residents and and creative artists. Hear his telling of TLC’s heart-led history.
TLC offers Adult Creative Arts programming with more than 30 classes to choose from. Our Children’s Creative Arts After School Program includes music classes, ballet and dance, fine arts, performing arts, fitness and more in an inclusive environment. TLC is also home to more than 80 adults living in our safe and nurturing residential homes for individuals with disabilities.
