Therapeutic Living & Learning Centers (TLC) is proud to spotlight David Rusch, an inspiring member of our Creative Arts Program (CAP). At 70, David combines resilience, talent, and warmth, showing that creativity and community know no age limits.
Originally from Pennsylvania, David lived independently for many years before moving to TLC’s Rinaldi House in 2024. A widower who shared a deep bond with his late wife, also blind, David has embraced his new chapter at TLC with an openness to learning and sharing his gifts.
This semester, David is enrolled in eight classes—Music Therapy, Musicians Workshop, Voice Over Sessions, Voice Class, Musical Theatre, Band, and Play Production. A gifted pianist and vocalist, he credits his TLC instructors with helping refine his talents and expand his artistic horizons. Recently, he composed and produced an original song for a fellow cast member in The Greatest Family Story, demonstrating both his skill and generosity as an artist.
David also launched his own podcast, Interludes with David Rusch Jr., now streaming on Spotify. Recorded during TLC’s voice-over classes, the podcast features live music, conversation, and a mix of genres from the 1940s to today. Instructor Elizabeth “Betsy” Meiman mentored David throughout the process, guiding him from concept to launch. Music Instructor John Della Franco helped shape the accompanying band, giving the show its rich, timeless sound.
Beyond performing, David plays an important role behind the scenes—tuning pianos in TLC’s Creative Arts Program and residential spaces, helping maintain instruments for students and residents while saving the organization the cost of outside services.

Now David is preparing for TLC’s upcoming production of A Christmas Carol this December—an event that promises to inspire and delight audiences.
Known for his kindness, gentle spirit, and unwavering positivity, David brings joy to everyone he meets. He is a shining example of how arts education, music therapy, and community programs can transform lives.
