A Creative Journey at TLC
Daniela Franco’s journey at TLC began in 2016 when she joined the organization’s Day Program. From the start, she became known for her warm personality, artistic spirit, and enthusiasm for creativity. Through the program, Daniela quickly formed meaningful friendships while exploring new artistic outlets and discovering how much she loved expressing herself through the arts.
During her early years at TLC, Daniela participated in a variety of creative activities for adults with disabilities, including fine arts classes and ceramics classes. These opportunities allowed her to build confidence, develop new skills, and connect with peers who share her passion for creativity.
A Natural on Stage and Behind the Scenes
In 2023, Daniela joined TLC’s Creative Arts Adult Day Program, opening a new chapter in her artistic journey. The program offers a supportive and inclusive arts and community in Reseda where participants can explore music, dance, theatre, and visual arts in a collaborative environment.
Daniela has become a familiar face in TLC’s theatre productions and live showcases. She has performed in a variety of productions, including Oklahoma, Cinderella, The Greatest Family Story, the Spectrum’s First Dance Recital, and seasonal talent shows.
Her versatility makes her a valued part of every production. Daniela enjoys participating in dance classes, singing in choir for adults, and exploring drama for adults through stage productions. At the same time, she is always willing to help behind the scenes when needed. Whether performing on stage or assisting with stage production tasks, she brings focus, enthusiasm, and teamwork to every project.
Most recently, Daniela was busy dedicating her time to rehearsing for A Christmas Carol, the Creative Arts Program’s December showcase in the Black Box Theatre, where participants once again had the opportunity to share their talents with the community.
Creativity in Everyday Life
While performing arts play a major role in Daniela’s life, her creativity extends far beyond the stage. She enjoys knitting, felting, gardening, cooking, and working with clay. Many of these interests grew through the program’s hands-on learning opportunities, including ceramics classes and gardening classes.
One of Daniela’s favorite opportunities to share her work is through TLC’s Pop-Up Markets. At these events, participants from the Creative Arts Adult Day Program proudly display and sell the artwork and crafts they have created. For Daniela, it is a meaningful way to connect with others and celebrate the pieces she has worked so hard to create.
The program also offers regular field trips and outings that encourage exploration and learning beyond the classroom. Daniela enjoys visiting places like the Museum of Tolerance, Lake Shrine in Malibu, California State University Northridge, and the Santa Monica Pier with her peers. These experiences are an important part of TLC’s broader life skills program for adults with disabilities, helping participants build independence while strengthening friendships and community connections.
A Heart for Community
Daniela’s creativity is matched by her generous spirit. She enjoys volunteering at AvantGarde and Pacifica Senior Centers and has supported community events such as the Granada Hills Women’s Christmas Luncheon.
Experiences like TLC’s music therapy program for adults with disabilities also give participants opportunities to express themselves through sound and rhythm while strengthening communication and confidence. Alongside creative expression, participants continue building valuable life skills classes and job skills classes that support personal growth and independence.
