A Creative Voice Finds His Stage at TLC
At 33 years old, Jesse is a gifted writer, loyal friend, and a quiet force of creativity whose presence lights up every room and every stage he enters. Today he thrives in TLC’s Creative Arts Day Program for Adults with Disabilities, where participants explore theater, music, and other inclusive arts experiences that build confidence and community.
After graduating from Miller Transition Community Center in 2014, Jesse joined TLC’s former Adult Day Program, building friendships and exploring new activities.
When in-person programming paused during the pandemic, it was a difficult season for many families. In 2023, Jesse and his family were overjoyed when TLC launched the Creative Arts Adult Day Program. This created new opportunities for participants to explore theater performance, music classes, and other creative activities for adults with disabilities.

Thriving in TLC’s Creative Arts Program
With the opening of the TLC Black Box Theatre, Jesse found a stage where he could truly shine. Since joining the Creative Arts Day Program at TLC, he has performed in multiple live showcases, including Reflections, where he rolled onto stage in his wheelchair. In that moment, he reminded the audience that everyone can dance, regardless of ability.
Jesse is also a powerful writer and performer. In The Greatest Family Story, he delivered some of the most memorable and hilarious lines of the show. Later, he wrote and performed a deeply personal piece titled “I Liked Walking Better and I Miss My Independence” at AdvantGarde Senior Living.
The audience responded with a standing ovation that lasted more than three minutes. It was a moment of pride, courage, and connection.
His work reflects what makes TLC’s Creative Arts Programs in Reseda so meaningful. Through theatre, storytelling, and other creative outlets, participants can share their voices and connect with audiences in powerful ways.
One of Jesse’s most touching works is an audio story about saving the tree outside his home. The piece moved listeners and ultimately helped preserve the beloved tree. Through his writing, he shows that creative expression can inspire real change.
Confidence, Community, and Belonging
Even though he’s softly spoken, Jesse’s smile says more than words ever could. His instructors often speak about his resilience and growing confidence.

Despite mobility challenges, he is always willing to try something new. When asked about his favorite classes or instructors, he simply says,
“They’re all special to me.”
His family remains one of his biggest sources of support. His sisters never miss a rehearsal or performance, and their encouragement reflects what we value most at TLC: community.
