A Creative Spirit at TLC
Nicholas Pratt, known to most as Nick, has been a valued member of the TLC community since 2012. Through TLC’s Creative Arts Day Program for adults with disabilities, Nick’s days are now filled with creativity and connection. Music plays a central role, along with the people who surround him
Nick first joined TLC while living at Shoup House. There, he quickly became known for his warm personality and knack for making others laugh. Today he lives at Devonshire House, where he continues to build strong friendships with housemates and staff. They appreciate his humor, kindness and creative energy.
Whether sharing a funny voice impersonation or preparing for a performance, Nick’s charisma draws people toward him. He has grown both artistically and socially by taking part in creative activities for adults with disabilities.
A Performer in His Element
Nick spends much of his week in TLC’s Creative Arts Adult Day Program, an inclusive arts and community program in Reseda where participants explore music, theatre, and visual arts while developing their creative talents. Through a combination of music therapy, performing arts training and collaborative learning, Nick continues to grow as an artist. Today, he is one of the program’s most dynamic performers.
His powerful singing voice has taken center stage in productions such as A Christmas Carol and Oklahoma, as well as TLC’s annual talent showcases. Audiences are drawn to the smooth, soulful tone of his voice and the passion he brings to every theater performance.
Nick’s musical abilities extend far beyond singing. As a member of TLC’s Jazz Band, he performs on several instruments, including flute, piano, drums, and harmonica. His versatility allows him to bring a unique sound and presence to every performance, and he enjoys collaborating with fellow musicians during rehearsals and performances.
Nick has shared his talent with audiences throughout the San Fernando Valley, performing at venues such as the Valley Arts Fair, AdvantGarde Senior Living, and TLC’s Black Box Theatre. He has even taken the stage at Culver City’s Blue Door Theatre, where sold-out audiences have enjoyed his unforgettable performances.
Finding Balance Through Creativity
When Nick is not rehearsing or performing, he enjoys activities that support his overall well- being. Aquatic fitness, yoga, meditation, and exercise classes are all part of the routines that help him stay balanced and energized. These activities complement TLC’s broader life skills program for adults with disabilities, which encourages independence, wellness, and community engagement. Participants in the program also take part in field trips and other experiences that help them explore the community while building confidence and friendships.
His dedication to the arts was recently recognized when he received a Certificate of Recognition from Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel for his outstanding performance in A Christmas Carol. Sharing that moment with his mother made the achievement even more meaningful.
Nick’s story reflects the spirit of TLC’s Creative Arts Adult Day Program, where creative expression, supportive instruction, and meaningful community connections help artists grow. Whether he’s performing on stage or simply sharing a laugh with friends, Nick brings joy and creativity to everyone around him.
