TLC provides a safe, welcoming community where children and adults with disabilities can explore creativity, develop life skills, and experience meaningful connection. Through our residential homes, Creative Arts Day Program, and Children’s Creative Arts After-School programming, individuals are supported in living lives filled with expression, dignity, and opportunity.
At TLC, we are committed to offering care, community, and opportunities for creative expression to all our participants. These three principles drive each of our program areas: the TLC Creative Arts Program (Adult Day Program), the TLC Residential Program and the Children’s Creative Arts After School Program.
Therapeutic Living AND Learning Centers’ Creative Arts Program philosophy is that every individual is unique and given the opportunity, can enhance their lives and the lives of society at large through the creative process.
TLC’s Adult Creative Arts Program Day Program offers individuals with multiple disabilities a multitude of ways to express themselves artistically and to experience the fullness of life. Each of our students chooses a variety of classes that appeal to them and their unique personalities and goals. Classes are both nurturing on an individual level and foster a sense of collaboration and group efforts and outcomes.
The Adults Creative Arts Day Program includes a large number of classes including music, dance, choir, ceramics, theatre arts, culinary arts, and more. Life skills, job skills and community integration are incorporated into classes. Our Creative Arts Program staff includes subject-matter specialists spanning all classic mediums including dance and movement, visual and dramatic arts, gardening, ceramics, and more. Where necessary, our teachers work with our Director of Occupational Therapy to create tools and accessible options to help students participate fully in the experience of creating art.
Our goal is for the Creative Arts Program participants to be exposed to the full spectrum of creative arts opportunities and that they experience the joy of creating art whether individually or in small groups.
At TLC we believe that a home is more than four walls and the required furnishing and staffing. We believe that a home is where we can be accepted for who we are – a safe place to grow old in and to explore the full potential of our beings. We believe that home should be a haven – a nurturing, compassionate space to live and thrive.
TLC’s residential program consists of twelve loving homes serving more than 80 residents throughout the San Fernando Valley. Four homes are on the main campus in Reseda and eight additional homes are located within nine miles.
Each home offers around-the-clock direct care staff, as well as access to physical therapy, speech and language therapy, orientation and mobility therapy, occupational therapy, and nursing services.
At TLC, we embrace the Person Centered Process. By focusing on the individual and what is Important To and For them, we are able to assist them in living a life of their choosing. We are able to help foster and maintain the relationships in their life that bring them joy and love. We are able to guide them in working through the challenges of life and living in a community with dignity and respect. We are able to teach them how to be good citizens of the world and what it means to have social responsibilities. We believe that if we are continually putting the people we support first and foremost, not only will the quality of their lives improve but, in turn, our staff’s lives will be enriched.

Building on the success of the Creative Arts Program and our commitment to community integration, our Children’s Creative Arts After School Program provides children of all abilities from ages 5 to 17 with access to our facilities, instructors, and activities, as well as the opportunity to work, learn, and play alongside our day and residential participants.
