Our fine arts classes for kids invite young artists to explore creativity through hands-on visual arts. Children can experiment with ceramics, photography, jewelry making, drawing, painting and mixed media, developing both artistic technique and personal expression. These kids art classes encourage imagination while helping students build confidence as they learn to observe, create and share their work.
Young artists join our program from across the West Valley, including families from Reseda, Tarzana, Encino, Woodland Hills and Northridge. The studio welcomes children from many neighborhoods who are excited to explore art, creativity and hands-on learning.
Fine arts activities provide meaningful opportunities for children of all abilities to explore creativity at their own pace. Working with materials like clay, paint, photography and jewelry design strengthens focus, patience and problem-solving skills while giving children a safe space to experiment and express themselves visually. Art can be especially empowering for children who communicate best through images and hands-on creation, helping them develop confidence and pride in their work.
The Children’s Creative Arts After School Program is partnering with some of the San Fernando Valley’s best fine art programs. We are also offering access to our own teachers who together have decades of experience as artists and as educators for students of all abilities. Smiles Through Art is an art program for people with disabilities and health conditions using the arts as a healing tool improving mental health and self-esteem. Each program is designed for a specific population depending on their needs. This class will work in various mediums including oils, watercolors, drawing, and pastels to create two-dimensional, three-dimensional and textile artwork.
Smiles Through Art is an arts in healthcare binational (US – Mexico) nonprofit that creates art programs for people with disabilities and health conditions using the arts as a healing tool improving mental health and self-esteem. Each program is designed for a specific population depending on their needs.
This course involves hands-on learning of hand-building (coil, slab, pinch) and wheel throwing techniques to create functional and artistic pieces. Students will learn about clay preparation, form, volume, surface decoration, and the glazing process for their fired artwork. The goal is to provide a supportive, fun and inclusive environment for young artists to develop skills, explore creativity, and gain an understanding of ceramic art through projects like bowls, mugs, sculptures, and tiles.
Jim is a sculptor and educator with advanced degrees in fine arts, including a Master of Fine Arts in sculpture from Indiana University. His work consists of clay, porcelain, wood, metal, plaster, glass, and repurposed or found objects.
He has exhibited internationally across North America and Europe, with work held in private and corporate collections in Canada, the United States, Italy, and Switzerland.
Jim brings decades of experience in universities, museums, and cultural institutions into the classroom. As an instructor in our Children’s Creative Arts After School Program, he leads students to explore form, texture, and self-expression through creative arts. His classes encourage experimentation, skill building, and confidence in a supportive environment.
Jewelry Design and Metal Arts for Kids focuses on beginner techniques in jewelry making, advancing to more complex approaches including bead work, wire designs, and metal arts. All this while unlocking wearable creativity and introducing the necessary safety practices in a fun environment!
Thessa grew up surrounded by creativity, inspired by artist parents who were a painter and sculptor. After exploring her own path, she discovered a passion for jewelry making and embraced it as her own form of wearable art.
She studied jewelry design at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, where she developed her skills in crafting unique pieces using acrylics, mixed metals, and gemstones.
Through her classes, Thessa shares her love of creating, encouraging students to explore their creativity, build confidence, and express themselves through jewelry design.
