A Lifelong Connection to Creativity
For more than twenty years, Steven has been part of the TLC community. His journey began in the Children’s Creative Arts Program, continued through Afterschool and Saturday sessions, and today he attends the Creative Arts Day Program for Adults five times a week as a full-time participant.
Watching his growth over the years has been extraordinary. Each stage of life has opened new doors for creative expression, confidence, and connection.
Thriving in the Creative Arts Program at TLC
Today, Steven’s schedule is filled with opportunity. He participates in:
- Dance classes
- Music classes
- Ceramics classes
- Gardening classes
- Theatre performances
- Culinary Arts
- And more!
Programs like this provide creative activities for adults with disabilities, helping participants develop confidence, independence, and social connection. In addition, the Creative Arts Adult Program encourages exploration across multiple disciplines from fine arts to job skills classes.
A Passion for Visual Arts
Visual arts are at the heart of Steven’s creative voice.
Through TLC’s ceramics and fine arts classes, he produces detailed drawings, expressive paintings, and striking ceramic sculptures. Many of his pieces have been featured in community art fairs and purchased by proud supporters.
Each work reflects imagination, patience, and pride.
During breaks, you will often find Steven sketching beloved television characters. Later, he transforms those drawings into ceramic creations. This process blends storytelling with craftsmanship and highlights the creative possibilities available through the Creative Arts Adult Day Program.
Most recently, Steven’s artistic vision took on a whole new scale. He independently created an original design that is now being painted as a large backdrop banner for TLC’s upcoming showcase, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. From a sketch to a full stage set piece, his artwork will be front and center for the entire audience to experience. It is a powerful example of what happens when creativity is given room to grow.
A Natural Performer
Beyond the studio, Steven shines on stage. Last year, he delivered a dynamic singing and dance performance that earned a standing ovation. His timing, energy, and presence captivated the audience.
His instructors describe him as:

“Gregarious, enthusiastic, funny, with perfect timing and an artist’s soul.”
He continues to stretch himself by trying new experiences, including Aquatic Fitness, where he combines movement with his love of water. Whether in Fine Arts, Intro to Acting, or Gardening, he approaches each class with enthusiasm and curiosity.
Resilience, Growth, and Joy
Since becoming a full-time participant in the Creative Arts Program for Adults, Steven has embraced every opportunity, even during recent campus transitions. His resilience and positive spirit are just as striking as his artwork.
