Shoup House is one of twelve homes within TLC’s adult residential program, operating throughout the San Fernando Valley. As one of the leading residential programs for adults with intellectual disabilities in the region, each home provides a safe and supportive environment where residents receive the care they need while maintaining as much independence as possible. Around the clock staff, along with access to therapy and nursing services, ensure that residents have the resources and support necessary to thrive.
Just as important as these services is the sense of belonging created inside each home. Staff members focus on getting to know every resident as an individual, helping them explore activities and experiences that reflect their personalities, interests, and goals.
Creating Meaningful Moments
This year, the Lead House Service Coordinator and the dedicated residential aides at Shoup House have made it their mission to turn weekends into something truly special. By planning outings based on each resident’s favorite activities, the team has created countless opportunities for fun, connection, and adventure.
Residents have enjoyed cheering on their favorite teams at Lakers and Angels games. Others have experienced the excitement and wonder of a trip to Disneyland. For those who prefer quieter outings, peaceful walks around the CSUN pond offer a calm escape. Scenic visits to the Marina Del Rey Pier are another favorite, giving residents a relaxing way to enjoy the beauty of Southern California outdoors.
Simple traditions have also become some of the most meaningful moments. Residents look forward to their weekly coffee run to Starbucks. Shopping trips to Lowe’s Garden Center and breakfast at a favorite local restaurant have become highlights they count on each week.
These outings provide more than just entertainment. They help residents stay connected to their community while creating memories that bring joy and a sense of belonging.
